Stress and Weight Gain

If you understand that stress is the rate of wear and tear on the body, then you can understand why stress and weight gain are related. Over time, stress affects the mind and food becomes a form of release for the stress.

As the stress increases, the more the food and eating becomes a response to deal with the stress. Sugar and carbohydrates become stimulatory and addictive. The sugar in the system produces a release response. Sugar isn't metabolized normally, so it is stored as fat.

The cycle repeats -- stress and weight gain -- and you become trapped.

WWeight gain is mult-factoral. It is created in many ways. When you are under emotional stress you tend to eat. On top of that the foods they eat do not satisfy the nutritional requirement. Two things need to happen.

  1. The food eaten has to be sustainable for life. EAT NO MORE JUNK!/p>

  2. The emotional root cause needs to be addressed and corrected.

The way to break out of the cycle is to address both the stress and weight gain.

AAttending to the stress is missing in most diet programs. If the stress isn't addressed, the weight falls because of better eating and exercise habits but bounces back in six months because the stress hasn't been dealt with.

Weight gain is a symptom of an underlying cause. It can be a true metabolic issue that needs clinical nutritional attention but there always undercurrents of emotional issues that make an overwhelming contributution.
