Stress Level
Your stress level is like you are sitting in a pot of
water on the stove. The fire is on because you are alive and as you age the
water you are sitting in gets a little warmer.
The first level of stress is awareness. You become aware that the water, your
stress, is getting warmer. Your skin gets a little red. Your heart beats a
little faster. Not a big deal, not right now. But you do say: "what's going on
here?"
The second stress level is reaction. The water gets hotter. You fling your arms
and legs in attempt to paddle out of the pot. You try turning the water off but
you cannot find the spigot.
The next stage is exhaustion. You give up all attempts to get out or do anything
to turn the water off. You come to the conclusion that: "this is the way it is
going to end for me."
Where do you find your own stress level? Are you in one, two, or three? The good
news and the most important thing to understand is that what ever level of
stress you find yourself, if you want to make changes to stop the hot water or
even better, get out of the pot, you can.
That is what
is in the most basic sense, the definition of stress is the rate of wear and
tear on the body.
Sincerely,
Dr Peter Lind
